Private corporations along with federal and state governments are increasing efforts to aid businesses owned by veterans. The number of states with legislation that favors veteran business owners has increased from 12 in 2008 to 18. How unfortunate that only 18 states care about our veterans.

Last Friday, President Barack Obama issued a proposal for helping veterans find work. The number of Fortune 1000 companies with supplier-diversity programs that include veterans has increased from 100 in 2007 to 156, according to the National Veteran-Owned Business Association.

It is unfortunate that we send our sons and daughters off to foreign lands to risk their lives daily for what we feel is our obligation to coerce our way of life on others, only to bring them back to a questionable future. More states should include initiatives such as this in their veterans affairs programs.
