Mitel has launched the newest version of their UC Advanced software. Version 4.0 adds new video capabilities and server functions.

UC Advanced 4.0 includes a desktop video conferencing feature, making face-to-face video just like making a phone call. Video calls are initiated from the interface in the same way as voice calls. The system also allows call requests to include a subject line and a priority level to increase the chances a call will be taken.

On the server update, Mitel is building on its Freedom open architecture by introducing server federation within an organization. Now, server federation between UC Advanced and Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) or IBM Lotus Sametime is available within an organization to allow an instant messaging presence, and point-to-point chat to all UC Advanced clients within the federated environment. In the next release, Mitel will be offering Lync support as well to build on its features for Microsoft OCS users.

This latest release builds on the offering’s success as Mitel reports UC Advanced has seen more than a 100 percent year-over-year growth in license sales for its PC client, web and mobile portals, and UC Advanced Mobile for the period of the third quarter of 2010 to the third quarter of 2011.

Great to see Mitel keeping pace with Cisco…
